“It got me to where I wanted to be.”
Starting out, I didn’t know what to expect from the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP). I knew I needed to do something about my high blood sugar, but would I have to change my whole life at once?
Right from the beginning, the program was very manageable. We took everything one step at a time: First we learned how to manage the fat we consumed, next we tracked our activity, and then we started looking at calories.
This gradual process over the course of 16 weeks helped me be successful. It got me to where I wanted to be. I’ve lost weight, my blood pressure is down, and my blood sugar is down. Other members from my DPP group have had success too, and we still get together at follow-up meetings on campus.
If there’s anyone like me out there who is considering DPP but is a little uncertain about what to expect, I would tell them, “Don’t worry. In DPP you’ll take it easy, one step at a time.”
New sessions of DPP will be starting in January. Check back later for dates and locations!
